Christmas Jumper Day

18th December 2019

Padnell Infant and Junior School will be taking part in this year’s Christmas Jumper Day in aid of ‘Jumpers for Joe’ on Wednesday 18th December.  The chosen charity is a small local children’s cancer charity called The Joe Glover Trust. Joe Glover, a Hampshire boy, died in 2006 at the age of 8 years old from Non Hodgkin's Lymphoma. The Joe Glover Trust was set up in his memory to support children with cancer and their families together with specialist children’s cancer units across Hampshire and the Isle of Wight, Dorset, West Sussex, Wiltshire and the Channel Islands. They provide financial assistance to families to help with the additional costs of caring for a child on cancer treatment. Since the charity started, they have supported hundreds of children and their families needing a helping hand. These are for a variety of reasons such as rent or mortgage payments as one or both parents might not be able to work while the child is in hospital, additional travel costs to Piam Brown Ward (the Paediatric Oncology ward) at Southampton General Hospital as children are treated here from anywhere in the Wessex Region, or sadly help towards funeral costs.

All pupils and teachers are invited to wear a Christmas Jumper with their usual school uniform on Wednesday 18th December and make a £1 donation for this worthwhile cause. It will be a day of festive cheer while helping to make a real difference to those families who experience a child having cancer.
